The effect of hypertension on the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) exhibited increased pro-inflammatory cytokine production (IL-2, IL-4 and IL-6) in the serum. The data are represented as total amount of cytokine produced in pg/ml in peripheral blood. The results shown are the means ± SEM; *p < 0.05, compared with the Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats (n = 20)
