Spatial distribution of plasma membranes containing SVCT1 or SVCT2 with respect to adjacent aqueous phases. Plasma membranes containing SVCT1 separate the cytoplasm of epithelial cells from the outer aqueous phase (GIT volume, urine). Plasma membrane containing SVCT2 separates cytoplasm of a cell from the interstitial fluid. Consequently, epithelial cells contain both SVCT1 and SVCT2 transporters, whereas all other cells are practically devoid of SVCT1
