The Drug Discovery Process. The drug discovery process involves the identification of different therapeutic targets based on extensive functional and genomic studies. Drugs designed to target different targets are tested in vitro, in vivo and toxicity testing to provide convincing preclinical evidence. Provision of preclinical evidence will qualify candidate drug for clinical trials followed by review and approval after evaluation of safety and efficacy
